Fresh ideas for teacher training

What makes aspiring teachers become good teachers? A number of German universities are intensively concerned with this question. In a contest, the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung in 2009 selected universities with particularly innovative ideas for better teacher training. With a total of EUR 4.5 million the foundation sponsored the further development of ideas such as an aptitude test through selection interviews or greater concentration on off-campus learning centers in the curriculum.

In the second phase of the project, the four universities are now coordinators. Together with nine further universities that the foundation also selected in a contest, they are putting the ideas into practice. These so-called development networks are intended to spread their ideas for good teaching throughout the whole of Germany.
