An award for innovation
Germany, the land of poets, thinkers and inventors: numerous innovations of our time are of German origin – such as the MP3 format, used throughout the world and developed in Erlangen. Its inventors were awarded the Zukunftspreis (German Future Prize) in 2000. Since 1997, the German Federal President's Award for Innovation in Science and Technology has been bestowed annually on researchers and developers whose products are already marketable and are particularly innovative.
Sponsored to the tune of EUR 250,000 by Deutsche Telekom Stiftung and others, the Zukunftspreis recognizes ground-breaking inventions created in close cooperation between industry and academia. In addition, the foundation is supporting a permanent exhibition running until 2018 at the German Museum in Munich and showcasing the winning projects.
