Teacher Training

Nearly 700,000 teachers are the lifeblood of Germany's general education schools. They accompany children and teenagers along much of their educational journey and have a special responsibility for their future. In short, they are one of the main factors in preparing young people to tackle challenges of tomorrow.

Teaching is highly regarded in countries that rank high in international education comparisons. Not so in Germany: here, it has lost much of its prestige in recent decades. Deutsche Telekom Stiftung aims to remedy this situation with its Teacher Training programs. We want to raise the standing of teaching in the public eye and make it a more attractive career for high school graduates.

We also aim for universities to devote much more attention to teacher training and for educational excellence to enjoy the same degree of respect as research excellence. We support universities in their efforts to specialize in this area, starting with math teacher training. Much of our energy goes into projects that successfully combine scientific knowledge with general and specialized education.
